Whitefurze Ltd manufacture a comprehensive range of plastic products in the UK. A fire in 2002 devastated Whitefurze’s Head Office and warehouse/distribution centre. This did not deter Whitefurze from its progressive path and a new hi-tech facility was built in order to provide a more accessible customer service base and enhance its product manufacturing capacity.

Whitefurze appointed Taalus to provide a network and telecommunications infrastructure.

Taalus provided Whitefurze with 3Com network hardware with Gigabit connectivity and Fast Ethernet to the Desktop. A structured wiring system was installed based on a Category 5e system with shielded UTP cabling in the warehouse due to electrical interference and fibre links to warehouse.
Taalus supplied Whitefurze with a flexible, scalable Avaya IP Office solution. The Coventry-based Head Office was equipped with an Avaya IP Office 403. An Avaya Small Office was installed at Whitefurze’s branch office in Nuneaton with voicemail integration via PCMIA Card and remote management by a WAN Link at the Head Office.
Whitefurze’s inter-site phone traffic are directed via leased line using Avaya’s VoIP Compression Cards and bespoke small community networking facility (SCN) which allows the two phone systems to share data like Call Appearance and Messaging.
Finally, an Avaya DECT solution was implemented to the Whitefurze Team Leaders, in order for them to remain contactable whilst roaming the warehouse and distribution centre.
The delivery fleet’s mobile communications are routed via the LCR Programme and Wavelink EasyGate FCT GSM Gateway to save them money on internal mobile calls.
The project began in late 2003 and continues to be implemented and advanced as and when Whitefurze’s budget allows. During the initial telephone implementation, Taalus’ Support Desk provided unlimited telephone and remote support. Training was conducted by one of Taalus’ Avaya Technical Engineers to a Whitefurze “Super User”. This training was focussed on general operations and use of applications.

Avaya Small Office - Supports up to 28 users in a compact desktop unit.
Avaya DECT - Ability to answer calls anywhere in the building. DECT system consists of base stations with a range of 50m indoors.
Phone Manager Pro - PC application for voicemail control, personal phone number directories and call processing.
Wavelink EasyGate FCT - Compact FCT that connects to telephone system with capacity for one SIM card.
