The Challenge

Taalus has worked closely with Daventry District Council (DDC) since 1990 on a number of projects. The Council realised the value of Digital Signage systems in providing information to members of the public visiting the Council’s various offices and approached Taalus to design an appropriate system for their requirements.

DDC wanted screens to be installed in three of their sites:

Lodge Road – The Council’s Main Office.

Abbey Centre – A custom built advice and resource
centre which houses a wide range of voluntary groups.

Brixworth Outreach Centre – An information service
office which is an alternative point of contact for
residents living in and around Brixworth, who wish to
access DDC’s Services.

The Solution

After surveying the sites Taalus proposed a solution using Samsung’s 40” PXN screens and Samsung MagicNet digital signage software.

The Samsung PXN screens are a large format TFT display, which meets the need for higher picture quality with a bigger size display. These screens offer world class picture quality, an advanced wide viewing angle, with a contrast ratio of 1200:1 the screen delivers a sharp image even in brightly lit areas and are ideal for Daventry District Councils well lit offices.

The Samsung MagicNet software is flexible with each screen connected to the Local Area Network (LAN), doing away with the need for a dedicated PC for each display. The system is user friendly and allows easy content management (which can be done remotely).

The ability to show unique content on each screen allows for highly targeted communications. Multiple content types are available and the displays can be configured to show multiple content on each screen in a number of formats (including split screen, four images per screen). All of the screens have independent volume controls, which has enabled the screen near the Main Reception desk at Lodge Road to be muted.

Two wall mounted screens were installed at the Council’s Lodge Road offices and have proved popular with the public, even occupying small children while their parents speak to the Council’s staff.

A single screen was installed the Abbey Centre and will be used by the voluntary organisations housed there to inform the public of the services they can offer.

At the Brixworth Outreach Centre a trolley mounted installation provides greater flexibility.

The system has been so well received that the Council are discussing adding additional screens to their network.

"The long trial period arranged by Taalus was much more useful than a short demonstration, as we were able to play around with the system to see if it could do all that we wanted."
- Simon French, Daventry District Council
