Taalus conducted a site audit for Nexor to aid the network design process. An entire inventory of equipment was taken and network equipment was analysed to determine the scope of the move. Taalus’ engineers physically moved and installed all the servers and PCs into Nexor’s new premises. This was no small task, as they had in excess of 100 servers, with a staff of 80! This service included a complete operational test of the entire network (servers, PCs, printers and IT equipment accessories) over the weekend with no downtime.
The redundant cabling of the new building was removed so that a full Category 6 Structured Wiring System could be put in place. This cabling system ensured ongoing compatibility with Nexor’s future developments and came with a 15 year warranty.
Nexor wanted to implement IP Telephony but still wanted to protect its investment in their old phone system. Taalus installed Avaya IP Office because it supported Nexor’s existing analogue and digital phones, allowed us to deploy VoIP for certain business functions, as well as being able to migrate and expand as Nexor grew.
Taalus replaced Nexor’s legacy network hardware with a 3Com managed solution because it provided high bandwidth, Quality of Service, VoIP capability, easily accommodated growth, migration to 3Com’s advanced XRN technology and came with a life time warranty. Taalus built, configured, set-up and tested the hardware prior to the installation and provided training for Nexor’s staff during this procedure.
At the time of the audit, Nexor’s servers were distributed throughout their old office. Taalus relocated these to a dedicated computer room, installed rack cabinets, power protection equipment, a NetBotz security and monitoring system, raised flooring, partitioning, and air conditioning. Two other development suites for servers were designed and Installed in other parts of the building.
Nexor was then given full documentation of the project including drawings of the buildings, locations of all outlets, full patching details of the hardware and configuration of the phone system and network.
"Quality is as important as cost. Taalus recognised the complexity of the relocation, taking away all concerns over the management of the relocation of the IT and telephony, letting us get on with managing other aspects of our move. Taalus provided a solution that fitted into our infrastructure and activities - that’s what set them apart from the competition."
